Frank Lloyd Wright & Summer in the City at SOPHY® Hyde Park

7/16/2019

July 16, 2019. Chicago, IL – This summer, SOPHY® Hyde Park, the acclaimed 98-room boutique hotel in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, is encouraging its guests to visit one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most memorable homes. Robie House, Wright’s masterpiece of Prairie-style architecture, reopened to the public last spring after a meticulous $11 million restoration. On July 11th, it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This architectural gem, located within walking distance from SOPHY®, was finished in 1910 and is considered the essence of Wright’s Prairie Style, inspiring a generation of modernist architects in the U.S. and Europe. Guests can discover the house Frank Lloyd Wright described as “a cornerstone of modern architecture” on a 50-minute guided tour that takes in both the exterior and interior of the building.

Credit for the sensitive restoration goes to the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust, the Chicago-based nonprofit that conducts tours of the Robie House. The house’s cantilevered roofs, art glass windows and doors, and vast interior spaces still seem radical more than a century on, a design that continues to inform how we live today. Entry into Robie House is by guided tour only and advanced tickets are highly recommended.

After exploring Robie House, guests can check-in and relax at SOPHY®, which was named one of “The Best New Hotels in the World” by the editors of Travel + Leisure. SOPHY®’s new “Summer in the City” advanced booking offer provides 20% off the best available room rate. To book the “Summer in the City” offer, visit SOPHY®.
